What were you fighting for? What was your ‘why’?
"My reason for starting the program was to work on my mental health, I was having difficulty managing this for a long time, I was lost and didn’t know how to reach out for help. I hit a very low period at the start of the year, and I was drinking very heavy to numb how I was feeling. I hardly exercised and my diet was really poor, I was very overweight. This lifestyle started to catch up with me a lot, I was burnt out, depressed and struggling to manage my anxiety. It affected a lot of areas in my life, I realised I needed to make a lot of changes and to work on my mental and physical health. I started making more positive changes to my diet and exercise. I joined a local gym, but from past experience I always tended to lose interest in gyms after a few weeks and fall back into old habits. I saw a post on Instagram about the Warrior Training program, reading the post it felt like it was everything I was looking for and what I needed. I signed up for the trial and the rest is history. I’m so happy I did, it’s been a life changing experience and something I’d recommend to anyone looking to make positive changes in their life."
What did you get out of the program physically?
"The physical changes were amazing, I had difficulty doing 10 sit ups at the trial. In the second half of the program we were doing over 100 for a warm up. Every week I saw the numbers on the scale go down. I became stronger and my cardio improved a lot. It’s very rewarding to see your body go through these changes and have friends and family give amazing feedback on the visible transformation that happens."
What were some of the mental and emotional outcomes you experienced?
"The mental changes for me were out of this world, I feel like a different person finishing the program. I’ve learned how to manage my mental health in more positive ways, I am a lot more confident!! I am very motivated to continue with this lifestyle and to continue training."
What did you learn about yourself?
"I learnt to not be so hard on myself, and that it’s okay to fail and be judged. If I’m struggling with anything, I know I can overcome it."
Did Warrior Training lead to any long term changes in your life, and if so what were they?
"The program definitely made some big changes to my life! I lost 21 kgs, I achieved everything I wanted to with my mental health and making the walk to the octagon. I’ve also fallen in love with Jiu Jitsu and will continue on with this in the new year."
What would you say to someone thinking about starting the Warrior Training Program?
"Enjoy every minute of it! I know 20 weeks sounds like a long time when you’re signing up, but that time goes by so fast. It is an amazing program that will teach you something new about yourself every class. Turn up everyday, even on the tough days where you’re tired or sore. Get your feet out of the bed, turn up to the gym and give it 100%. Trust the process and listen to your coaches and drill what they teach you. Don’t overthink the fight, that’s the easy part compared to the work you do over those 20 week."
